Il folosim atat de des in engleza , dar n-am auzit pe nimeni niciodata sa foloseasca echivalentul lui in romana , cu exceptia lui Octavian Paler.

Toxic, agreez in totalitate! Limba noastra e o comoara!

Cum l-a tradus Octavian P. ?

mersi Ligia smile.gif

Paler a spus DEPRINDERI.

Deci daca ar fi sa scriu un C.V . in limba romana la " skills" as pune " DEPRINDERI"

cind zici "i'm skilled at pickpocketting" se potriveste "indemanare" sau "talent".
dar daca zici "his networking skills are laughable" parca nu se mai potriveste unsure.gif
si nici "deprinderi"... unsure.gif

Crush - zdrobire. De-aia "I have a crush on X" se traduce in romana "mi s-a pus pata pe X" rofl.gif Si asta mi-a adus aminte de un alt termen, "infatuation" - care in engleza are cam acelasi sens ca si crush, iar in romana "infatuare" inseamna a fi increzut.

Napoleon9th, cred ca in domeniul computerelor ar fi ridicol sa se traduca in romana termenii tehnici. Dar nici nu-mi place cand le vad scrise in romana "sait", "maus" etc.

Despre diferenta intre "may" si "can" o sa-ti spun cum am invatat-o eu din primul an de engleza, si pana in ziua de azi mi se pare cea mai geniala metoda - e o glumita care suna asa:

"Mother, can I smoke?
Yes dear, you can but you may not."

In romana, "can" reprezinta putinta, iar "may" permisiunea (a avea voie) chiar daca in unele instante se foloseste "a putea" - ca si in exemplul de mai sus: Pot sa fumez? poti, dar n-ai voie).

Si uite inca niste expresii: motel (si sa nu spuneti HAN!! biggrin.gif ), drive-in si drive-through.

Inseamna sa-ti indeplinesti datoria de soldat fiind in turela tancului, parca.

"the fluyte was sailing close-hauled to the wind riding out the heavy seas" sau "the battlecruiser was steaming at top speed trying to reduce the range".

echivalentul la "a naviga" e "to navigate". sailing e...sailing rofl.gif

QUOTE

to man e a ocupa dar in sensul de a ocupa cu personal operator.
"to man a turret" ar fi "a ocupa o turela" lasind sa se subinteleaga ca "ocupatia" nu e ostila.
nu stiu daca pentru verbul anglo-saxon "to man" exista vreun echivalent in limbile romanice.

Ehimology :from its possession by the heroes of the Persian fairy tale The Three Princes of Serendip

serendipity= the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for

In mahalaua mea alea se numesc "Trail mix".
