Vi s-a intamplat sa nu vreti sa faceti o poza unui anumit loc unde ati fost ? Sau sa nu vreti sa luati o piatra, o frunza pentru amintire ? Un loc care v-a impresionat cumva. Sau un film - nu orice film, sa nu mai vreti sa il vedeti a doua oara ? Desi a fost foarte "frumos" ?

De ce ? Pentru cei care exista intrebarea. Cui nu i s-a intamplat niciodata - nu stie ca exista intrebarea.

"Reducerea realitatii". Nu poti cuprinde tot ce ai simtit intr-un anume loc intr-o poza sau o piatra si nu vrei/poti sa reduci la o poza sau piatra. Dar nu ar fi bine sa faci o poza sa iti "amintesti" ? Nu merge, nu poti colectiona asa ceva.
Stiinta moderna , care ar veni si ti-ar zice "pai ai vazut culorile astea, obiectele celelate, astea au declansat procesu X dupa formula Y, si asta fost tot, ce-i prostia asta sa nu faci poze"

Autoarea cartii "The Continuum Concept" descrie o asemenea experienta, cand era mica intr-o excursie a gasit un loc "perfect". Mai tarziu s-a intors acolo dar s-a ferit sa ia vreo amintire. Apoi si mai tarziu spune ca aproape uitase complet ce a simtit acolo, nu mai ramasese decat cu imaginea. Si din intamplare a ajuns sa viziteze indienii Yequana din Venezuela, unde spune ca a reantilnit tot ce simtise in locul ala "special". Apoi a stat printre ei vreo 3 ani si a scris cartea.

Yet even Bjork cannot say no for sure. "We think nature is a lot stronger than man," she said in another interview, when the Elf Question came up. "A relationship with things spiritual has not gone away."

A belief not just in elves but also in the predictive power of dreams, in the potency of dead spirits and in other supernatural phenomena, is closely linked to Iceland's Celtic traditions and punishing, powerful landscape - especially the harsh weather and the rocks that appear everywhere.

"If there was a large stone in the garden, and somebody said to an Icelander, 'That's an elf stone,' would they blow it up? They wouldn't," said Terry Gunnell, head of the folkloristic department at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik.

"It's not like they think there are little people living in there who come and dance outside," he added. "It's more a sense that there are other powers, other forces around them."

Such occurrences are not unusual. In nearby Kopavogur, a section of Elfhill Road was narrowed from two lanes to one in the 1970's, when repeated efforts to destroy a large rock that was believed to house elves were thwarted by equipment breakdowns. The rock is still there, jutting awkwardly into the road, but it is unclear whether the tenants are.
