In the first quarter of 2002, the consolidated trade finance volume of the bank reached EUR 776 million showing an increase of 68 % compared to 2001. On the other hand, we, as Romania branch managed to increase the trade finance volume by 57 %, up to EUR 110 million compared to 2001. This trend emphasizes the growth strategy of GarantiBank International N.V. in Romania. We strongly believe that, we have fundamentals and opportunity in increasing the trade finance activities in this region.

Furthermore, a new desk, which was created in Amsterdam in this year, will enable us to be more active in structured trade finance market segment. Besides the know-how in trade & commodity finance and forfaiting markets, we are aiming to grow in the field of structured trade finance.

Besides trade finance products for corporate clients, the bank is about to open a new branch in Bucharest to tap the local business opportunities in the market. We will also launch products and services for Romanian companies active in domestic trade.
