Pare interesant dupa titlul afisat in home page: "A superb, compact, super-fast and free operating system". Sa vedem daca e mai compact si mai fast decat slax.
Personal, in ultima vreme, am preferat distributiile bazate pe debian (baiat destept Klaus Knopper , ubuntu o super reusita, pe servere debian e favoritul meu).
Acum fac download la versiunea maxi pe care ai recomandat-o tu si sunt chiar curios ce poate. Sunt curios mai ales ca nu m-am prins, din materialul citit de pe site-ul lor si ce ai mai dat tu, pe ce desktop environment se bazeaza. Pare sa fie KDE si atunci s-a dus drakkului faza cu compact si super-fast, poate sa fie Gnome dupa cum se prezinta puppy astia pe web. Dar daca nu merge compiz, pentru mine nu face 2 bani, deoarece eu ma folosesc foarte mult de functiile de zoom si real transparency, de exemplu. Foarte important e si repository-ul...

Dar, gata, download-ul s-a terminat. Prajesc acuma cd-ul si vedem ce poate catelusu'

naspa! imaginea are 758,8 MB si eu n-am decat blank-uri de 80' / 700MB. Primul test l-au picat deja.
Totusi sunt foarte curios asa ca voi face download la versiunea light, aia de 100 de MB macar sa vad cum stau la hw detection.

Poate-mi spui pana atunci pe ce desktop environment e construit, kde, gnome, xfce, rox... altul?!

man cu ai incercat să-l tragi? vezi cu imgburn... e adevărat că am tras imaginea pe un DVD dar ca imagine de CD...

hai aştept... încearcă MAXI totuşi...

no kde shit!!! are mai multe wm o să-l îndrăgeşti! Mă uit la cum arată SLAX şi chiar sucks în comparaţie cu Newyearspup!





încearcă LXDE MU cu suport 3D dacă reuşeşti cu driverul video...

uf, shape, nu intelegi ca n-am la indemana acuma decat cd-uri de 700?! ... in care nu incape imaginea aia iso indiferent de soft-ul de prajit cd-uri. Nici macar un dvd blank n-am acuma ca sa-l ard.


Te intrebam de "desktop environment"-ul pe care se bazeaza distributia nu de "window manager". Ca wm prefer compiz.

LE: scuze, acum am vazut completarea ta.

OK... Iată şi Muppy 008.4c (final release) AICI

Mai există un torrent cu o variantă DVD AICI

după cum vedeţi sunt 2 imagini: una MINI şi una LIVE...

Iată ceva amănunte de pe forumul lui Murga:

Muppy-Mini is a small, modified version of Puppy.
It is only 150 MB.
It includes Abiword, Opera and mplayer.

The main difference to Puppy is, that I replaced almost all programs and libraries with the latest versions from Slackware 12.1 and the patches from GnomeSlackbuild.org.

This allows you, to install all the modern programs from the Slackware repositories using the packagemanager "gslapt".

You also can use most software compiled for Puppy 4, though Muppy originally was based on Puppy 3.
The integrated Backup tool makes it easy to restore your system, in case you break something.

MInI = MODULAR SYSTEM
Some people do not like, to install many packages manually.
So we have created "addons.sfs", an optional 400 MB addon file, with many libraries, codecs and programs.
So you have grafics accelleration, the 3D compiz desktop, Wine 1.1.4 to run Windows Programs.
It also includes Firefox, several Chat programs (pidgin, ayttm), media players and Gimp.
Even more exotic things are included, like Java and Samba.

The libraries in addons.sfs even allow you, to use other extensions, that include the huge desktops KDE 3.5.10 and Gnome 2.22.3.

We also created an office.sfs with Adobes Acrobat Reader and OpenOffice 3 rc1 (will be replaced in october with the final version).

Muppy has a limit, you can use just 3 addons at once.
So I also created a 1.5 GB addon, that includes all others.
So Muppy-mini, addons.sfs and megapack.sfs give you a Puppy, that consists of 6 GigaByte (uncompressed size) of programs!

MUPPY-LIVE
Muppy-Live is a 800 MB CD.
It combines Muppy-Mini, addons.sfs, games.sfs and Office.sfs in one system, that can be run directly from CD.
I recommend to use this version, if you plan a full harddrive install.
In general, I do NOT recommend full harddrive installs.
But on some very old hardware, it can perform better, than the recommended frugal installation.
Muppy-Live is suited better for the full installation, as it includes all Kernel modules in the main sfs file.
This is different to the Mini, that has them in a seperate "zmsy" (zdrv) file, that is not installed in full installations.

GNOME/KDE
Both Desktops are optional.
I reworked the KDE menusystem, to get a nicely categorized menu with Puppys programs included.
The Gnome integration is not as good as the KDE support.
In Gnome, several programs are listed in "lost+found".
Some system programs like the usermanager do not work.
These issues are very difficult to solve, I hope we can do this together for the next release. I could need help here.


The folders are seperated in "Live" and "Mini", and also in "english" and "german".
The folder "Addons-Common" includes the optional extensions like Gnome/KDE. They are multilanguage.

Hints (from reports in this thread)

- install the ServicePack.pet before you shutdown and save.
Simply download it with your webbrowser, and click on it in the filemanager, to install it.

- If you cannot get your wireless network up, please update the network wizard:

- distribuţie folosită: Muppy008.4c
- tipul de instalare: FRUGAL (recomandat dacă vreţi să rulaţi sistemul şi aplicaţiile din RAM ca în cazul MINI CD) pe o partiţie ext3 cu LIVE CD
- incărcat câteva module (kde, games, gnome - maxim 3)... totul în RAM... ce au reuşit alţii în câţiva GB aici e condensat în câteva sute de MB... Veţi avea un sistem în care aproape tot porneşte instant şi care se mişcă f. bine cu resurse puţine.


tips: puneţi fişierele .sfs în directorul /puppy084 creat cu universal installer, creaţi un fişier personal după ce bootaţi a doua oară dând un reboot (îl crează automat), dacă vă jucaţi cu backup managerul crează automat şi backup-ul la fişierul .sfs creat. Modulele se pot încărca folosind Wizard Wizard şi setările pt. încărcare module la bootare.

Puppy built with the latest kernel. Recommend use this one unless you have a particular need for any of the others. Has some "winmodem" drivers. ISO is 97MB.

pup4-417-k2.6.30.1_cutdown_modules.iso
Built with 2.6.30.1 kernel and a cutdown selection of drivers. This one is good for multisession (run totally in RAM, save sessions back to cd/dvd) when PC only has 256MB RAM. ISO is 92MB.

pup4-417-k2.6.25.16.iso
Puppy built with 2.6.25.16 kernel and lots of modem drivers. Good for older computers and/or if you access Internet via a "winmodem".

pup4-417-SCSI-k2.6.25.16.iso
This build has drivers for true-SCSI drives and will even boot from a true-SCSI drivers. Note, only some older PCs are likely to have such drives.

pup4_devx_417-sfs3.sfs
Complete compile environment for 417 pup built with 2.6.28.x or earlier kernel.

Complete compile environment for 417 pup built with 2.6.29 or later kernel.

Beta next
To fit in with my next visit to Perth, the beta release will (probably) be next weekend, 24 - 26 July. I'll (probably) bump the version number to 422 so that it makes more sense.
Of course expect more bugfixes, some package upgrades, a new theme perhaps -- WhoDo sent me some icons (yes, WhoDo is still around, just keeping a low profile). Actually, a few people have emailed me or sent pm's recently and I haven't had time to respond -- will attempt to catch up.

Barry Kauler's Jaunty Puppy alpha 9 download AICI

'Jaunty Puppy' is an Upuptu or Upup which utilises elements of the best of Puppy and the latest Ubuntu streamlined with Puppy magic

'upup-476.iso' is the standard Jaunty Puppy build, kernel 2.6.29.4.
'upup-476-IDE.iso' is the same except for the kernel, which is configured with the old IDE drivers instead of the PATA kernel drivers.
'upup-476-SCSI.iso' is for PCs with true SCSI hardware, including ability to boot from a SCSI drive.

If you experience boot or shutdown problems on certain hardware, try the "IDE" variant.

This will be followed soon by the 'beta1' release, although the 'pre-beta'
is looking good, could probably have bumped it up to the first beta.

I have assigned it version number '422', for the sake of giving it some
number -- but do not yet treat it as an official successor of Puppy 4.21.
The official release is going to be 4.3 (which will be version number 430).

4.3 is going to be released built with three different kernels.
At this stage it looks like they will be 2.6.21.7, 2.6.25.16 and 2.6.29.6.

So, the live-CD ISO file and accompanying 'devx' file need to be named to
distinguish between these different builds. The naming is prefixed
like this:

PREFIX KERNEL EXPLANATION
ppa 2.6.29.6 "advanced" build
pps 2.6.25.16 "standard" build
ppr 2.6.21.7 "retro" build

Recommend this for most people. Should work fine on most older hardware also.

This has the kernel used in Puppy 4.1x and 4.2x. It has a lot of kernel drivers,
in particular for analog dialup modems. Choose this if for some reason the
advanced build has a comaptibility probelm with your hardware, especially if
you have a "Windows modem".

retro
-----
Coming soon. Some really old hardware works with this kernel, not with later
kernels. This will also support true-SCSI drives, including booting from them.

Foarte obosit puppy asta. E pe 3 primele locuri intre cele mai anapoda distributii linux pe care le-am incercat eu.
Eu sunt chiar mai obosit decat puppy ca sa argumentez.
